DIY Autumn Décor: Crafting a Cozy Fall Wreath

By Paige Crosby

10/1/2024

One of the best ways to welcome autumn into your home is with a charming, custom-made fall wreath that you can DIY. It’s easier than you think, and you don’t need to be a crafting pro to pull it off!

Let’s start with the base. You can pick up a base wreath (like this one from Wall-Mart) or any style you prefer from your local craft store. Some ideas are grassy, vine-like, or made from fresh leaves (those lovely eucalyptus or grapevine wreaths work perfectly). These ideas provide you with the base you need and give you the freedom to personalize your wreath however you want.

Next, grab your favorite variety of orange ribbon. We are loving this variety ribbon bundle under $5 for a bundle, found online at Michaels.com.

If you find that this bundle isn't matching your personality, then we recommend looking through ribbon options and find what colors and patterns you gravitate to. Some ideas we like are natural burlap with pumpkins, bright tangerines, or even burnt oranges. We are a little obsessed with this cute pumpkin ribbon.

Once you have your favorite ribbon bundle selected, cut each in varying lengths, or you can leave them long and equal, which is what we prefer! Afterwards, don't forget to burn the edges, lighters work great for this actually. Now-you are ready to attach your bundles. Tie, glue, or secure those ribbons with wire to the bottom of the wreath and allow the ribbons to all dangle. For extra thickness, double or triple your bundles. If you are looking for dimension, add some darker shades into the mix, like rust or burgundy colors.

Optional Addition: Add Pumpkins!

Just hot glue a few mini pumpkins onto your wreath, spreading them evenly around the circle to balance the design. The mini's will instantly give your wreath the extra sparkle to finish off that perfect autumn vibe that your guests will notice instantly as they make their way to your door. We are loving the neutral tone of these mini wicker pumpkins and feel this would allow your colorful ribbons to be in the spotlight.

The Finishing Touch: A Fall Aroma

Now, here’s where we take it up a notch—spritz your wreath every few days with a fall-scented spray. Whether it’s a pumpkin spice scent, warm cinnamon, or earthy wood notes, it adds an extra layer of cozy. When your guests or neighbors approach, they’ll be greeted with the delightful aroma of fall before they even ring your doorbell.

And there you have it—our simple yet stunning DIY autumn wreath decor tips that we guarantee will bring warmth and charm to your home. It’s a fun way to celebrate the season, and the best part? You can make it entirely your own!
